I items you will need to bring with you to the classes.

 

Please bring your sewing machine and operator’s manual along with the accessories that came with your machine.

 

Bring the following items to the class:

 

Scissors, pins, pin cushion, needles for hand sewing and for your machine: tape measure, seam ripper, 6” seam gauge ruler, pencil and paper for notes, small box for your notions.

Please label these items to avoid confusion.

Due to limited time and space, we ask that children and visitors not be brought to these classes. Reservations made on “first come first served” basis, so please make your application and payment early to reserve your place in the class. PLEASE CASH ONLY.

Class is for ages 12 and above. Men are welcome also.

Cost: $150.00 per session ***CASH ONLY***

 

Includes a 2-hour lesson held once a week.

Meets for 4 weeks; totaling 8 hours of instruction.

 

Week 1-Learn the proper use of your sewing machine. Learn to take body measurements to create the best fit for your shape. How to read the pattern books and selecting a pattern to sew. How to know what size to get, deciding on what fabric, colors, and where to look for them. How to know what notions to buy for the pattern you select.

 

Week 2 – Learn how to read a pattern and alter the pattern to fit your body shape. How to prepare the material you have selected and to lay out the pattern properly. The best way to cut and mark the pattern pieces.

 

Week 3 – Learn how to begin sewing basic seams and darts. How to properly finish the seams. Learn how to use a Serger. Learn how to pick the right interfacing; iron in versus sew in. The use of the iron in sewing. Tricks of the trade.

 

Week 4 – Learn how to hem and sew by hand. Basic hand stitches and finishing techniques for hook and eyes and buttonholes and buttons. The blind hem stitch and how and when to use it. Learn how to personalize the garments with trims and decorative stitches built into your machine.
